Feast of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker celebrated in New York City

On Thursday May 22, 2014 the Holy Orthodox Church commemorates the Translation of the Relics of St. Nicholas to Bari, in 1087. On this date, St. Nicholas Cathedral in New York City, celebrated its minor Patronal Feastday. The Administrator of the Patriarchal Parishes in the USA, His Eminence Archbishop Justinian of Naro-Fominsk celebrated the Divine Liturgy, along with His Grace, Bishop Jerome of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia and a multitude of clergy.

After Holy Communion, the Archpastors and clergy sung the magnificant before the Holy Icon of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker.

During his sermon, Archbishop Justinian greeted all those present, with the feast of St. Nicholas. His Eminence underlined the importance of St. Nicholas’ life and legacy to all Orthodox Christians. Archbishop Justinian congratulated the parishioners of St. Nicholas Cathedral with their minor Patronal Feastday. His Eminence then brought to attention the importance of the life of St. Sergius of Radonezh, whose 700th year of birth, is commemorated this year.

After his sermon, Archbishop Justinian blessed a newly-constructed kiot, containing a large icon of St. Sergius.

At the conclusion of the Liturgy, the Polychronion was intoned for His Holiness Patriarch Kirill, Archbishop Justinian, Bishop Jerome, the clergy, and especially the parishioners of St. Nicholas Cathedral.

Afterwards, the General Consul of the Russian Federation held a festal banquet commemorating the opening of the North American Festivites, commemorating the 700th Anniversary of birth, of St. Sergius of Radonezh.
