On Tuesday, August 19, the Great Feast of the Transfiguration of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ was prayerfully commemorated in the Transfiguration Cathedral in Los Angeles, CA (ROCOR). Clergy of the Eastern, Western American Dioceses of ROCOR as well as Patriarchal and OCA participated in the Divine Services.
Before the beginning of the Divine Services, the Wonderworking Kursk-Root Icon of the Mother of God was greeted at the doors of the Cathedral.
After Holy Communion the traditional Blessing of the Fruit was served, after which, at the request of Archbishop Kirill, Bishop John delivered a sermon to the faithful.
At the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy, a procession was held around the territory of the Cathedral. After the procession, His Grace Bishop John expressed his gratitude to Archbishop Kirill and Cathedral Rector Archpriest Alexander Lebedev, for their invitations to serve on this Holy Feastday. Bishop John then presented the rector with an icon of the founders of St. Nicholas Cathedral in NYC - St Tikhon of Moscow and Priestmartyr Alexander Hotovitsky.
Interaction between Hierarchs, clergy and faithful continued in the parish hall for a festive meal prepared by the parish sisterhood.
