Bishop John Leads Divine Services for Pentecost in St. Nicholas Cathedral

On Sunday May 31, the great feast of Holy Pentecost, the Administrator of the Patriarchal Parishes in the USA celebrated the festal All-night Vigil and Divine Liturgy in St. Nicholas Cathedral in NYC.

His Grace was co-served by cathedral clergy at the Divine Services. At the Little Entrance during Divine Liturgy, Bishop John tonsured altar-servers Peter Kozdrin and Yulian Ryabstev readers. The readers will continue their obedience at St. Nicholas Cathedral.

After the reading of the Holy Gospel, His Grace delivered a sermon dedicated to the feast. After the Augmented Litany, prayers were raised for peace in Ukraine.

At the conclusion of Divine Liturgy, Bishop John led Great Vespers. During the singing of the Great Prokimen, rose petals of various colors were strewn from the central cupola of the Cathedral signifying the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles in the form of fiery tongues. Bishop John and the clergy then proceeded to read aloud the Kneeling Prayers.

At the conclusion of Great Vespers, Bishop John greeted all the faithful with the feast of Holy Pentecost. He also greeted the newly-tonsured readers and presented them with prosphoras from the Divine Liturgy.
