On August 27-28, the feast of the Dormition of the Holy Theotokos, the Administrator of the Patriarchal Parishes in the USA led the Divine Services in St. Nicholas Cathedral in New York City.
On the eve of the feast, Bishop John led the All-Night Vigil, co-served by cathedral clergy. During the singing of the Polyeleos, the Holy Shroud with the icon of the Dormition was brought from the altar to the center of the church. After the reading of the Holy Gospel, Bishop John read the Sunday and Festal Canon.

On the actual day of the feast, Bishop John led the Divine Liturgy in St. Nicholas Cathedral. After the reading of the Gospel, Bishop John delivered a sermon about the feast. Later in the day, Vladyka John led the Matins with the Burial-Rite of the Mother of God. After the singing of the Great Doxology, the Shroud of the Theotokos was processed around the cathedral.
