Archpastoral visit to St. Nicholas Church in Bayonne

On Sunday evening, May 5, the eve of the feast of Great Martyr George, interim Administrator of the Patriarchal Parishes in the USA, Bishop Matthew of Sourozh visited St. Nicholas Church in Bayonne, NJ where he led the All-night Vigil.

His Grace was co-served by parish rector Archpriest Michael Kapchits, Priest Dimitry Sukhorukhov (parish cleric), clergy of St. Nicholas Patriarchal Cathedral in New York City and guest clergy.

After the reading of the Gospel, Bishop Matthew presented Fr. Michael with the jubilee medal in honor of “the 100th Anniversary of the Restoration of the Patriarchate of the Russian Orthodox Church.” In addition, in connection with the bright Resurrection of Christ, Fr. Dimitry was awarded the right to wear the kamilavka.

At the conclusion of the service, Bishop Matthew addressed all those gathered with a sermon and congratulated all with the feast of Great Martyr George and the continued joyous feast of Pascha.

Archpriest Michael greeted Bishop Matthew, expressing his gratitude for His Grace’s attention to the parish on behalf of the clergy and parishioners. In honor of his visit, Fr. Michael presented Bishop Matthew the parish with a reliquary containing relics of Holy Apostle Matthew – the heavenly protector of His Grace.

Interaction between Bishop Matthew, the clergy and parishioners continued during a festal reception during which parish schoolchildren performed for all to enjoy.
