On May 7, a meeting was held in the administrative center of the Orthodox Church in America in Syosset, NY between His Beatitude Metropolitan Tikhon of all America & Canada, members of the Holy Synod, whose spring session is being held from May 7 to 10, and the interim Administrator of the Patriarchal Parishes in the USA, Bishop Matthew of Sourozh.
During the meeting, which was held in a warm fraternal atmosphere of mutual understanding, issues of cooperation between the Churches of Russia and America were discussed, as well as matters of inter-Orthodox cooperation.
The hierarchs also discussed the preparation of commemorative events next year dedicated to the 225th anniversary of the beginning of the North American mission by monastics from Valaam Monastery, the 50th anniversary of the Russian Orthodox Church’s presentation of autocephaly to the Orthodox Church in America and the 20th anniversary of the opening of the Metochion Church of Great Martyr Catherine in-the-fields in Moscow, to be celebrated in December of this year.
At the end of the meeting, the hierarchs exchanged commemorative gifts.
