On September 26, at the invitation of Bishop Matthew of Sourozh, Interim Administrator of the Patriarchal Parishes in the USA & Canada, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the United States of America, Anatoly Antonov visited the St. Nicholas Patriarchal Cathedral in New York City.
Bishop Matthew spoke to the distinguished guest about the history and current life of the main church of the Russian Orthodox Church in the USA. Anatoly Ivanovich venerated the holy objects of the cathedral, and was acquainted with the activities of the Parish School, library and museum.
During the meeting, Bishop Matthew informed the Ambassador about the social and charitable programs of the Patriarchal Cathedral. The parties also discussed a number of plans and initiatives, where interaction between the Russian Embassy in Washington and the structures of the Russian Orthodox Church is possible.
Marking the Ambassador's visit to the cathedral, Bishop Matthew presented the distinguished guest a book on the history of Orthodoxy in the United States and Great Britain, as well as a copy of a 1905 historical photograph of the founders of the church with the clergy of the Russian Church headed by St. Tikhon of Moscow.
The meeting was attended by the Bishop's personal secretary Nikolai Trubnikov, clergy of the cathedral and members of the Russian Embassy in the United States - second secretary Alexei Mosin and senior adviser Alexander Kim.
