Bishop Matthew expresses condolences to family of Yuri A. Sandulov

On May 6, Yuri A. Sandulov, President of the historical society “Northern Cross” reposed in the Lord at the age of 67 from complications from the coronavirus.

To the Family, Relatives & Colleagues of Yuri A. Sandulov

Dear Brothers and Sisters!

With profound sadness I learned of the untimely repose of Yuri Askoldovich, whom I had met about one year ago during the paschal days in May. Just as my predecessor-hierarchs in the Patriarchal Parishes in the USA, Yuri hastened to share his plans and proposals for cooperation in cultural and historical projects in which the reposed expressed his love for the motherland and sought to perpetuate the memory of Russian compatriots in America.

For the many clergy and laity of the parishes of the Moscow Patriarchate in the United States, who have worked together with the newly-reposed for many years, it is still difficult to express the feeling of irreparable loss that we are experiencing. I am sure that the most fitting way to express our gratitude to Yuri Askoldovich for his invaluable contribution to the promotion of Russian Orthodox heritage in the United States, will be the completion of those projects that we have since been working on that remain incomplete.

Today we pray to the Resurrected Christ our Savior, who called on to Him this faithful laborer, for all those who weep and are ill in connection with the death of Yuri Askoldovich, and who seek divine comfort. But, as the warriors of Christ, seeing off his comrade and co-believer, we see a sign of the special mercy of God's bountiful mercy to the newly reposed in the fact that allowed Yuri to be born in Eternity on the day of his Heavenly Protector, Great Martyr & Trophy-Bearer George. Exactly one year ago, on May 6, Yuri Askoldovich presented the design of the chapel-monument to all the memory of the St. George Cavaliers who reposed in the United States.

Through the prayers of Great-Martyr George, may the All-Merciful Lord grant the newly-reposed Yuri the Heavenly Kingdom, and the family, relatives and colleagues, strength and courage to withstand his loss.

With sincere condolences,

+Matthew
