On December 9, 2025, after visiting St. Nicholas Cathedral in Seattle, WA, His Grace Bishop Matthew of Sourozh, Interim Administrator of the Patriarchal Parishes in the United States & Canada, with the blessing of Bishop Theodosius of Seattle, Vicar of the Western American Diocese of the Russian Church Abroad, visited the chapel in honor of Saint John of Shanghai, who reposed in the Lord on July 2, 1966, before the wonderworking Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God during a visit to St. Nicholas Cathedral.
The chapel was built on the site of his blessed repose. Vladyka celebrated a moleben to the Most Holy Theotokos and to Saint John. Cathedral dean Archpriest Vyacheslav Davidenko, and Nikolai Trubnikov, the bishop's personal secretary, prayed at the service.
Bishop Matthew congratulated those gathered on the feast day in honor of the Protectress of the Russian Diaspora and expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Bishop Theodosius for the opportunity to offer prayer at this holy site. Vladyka thanked Fr. Vyacheslav for the warm welcome and their shared prayers.
